The fact that they have been used for decades and are still being used in baby bottles, pacifiers, teethers and children’s toys shows just how much our US government does not care for the health of its populace. It cares only for the monetary health of the powerful corporations that lobby and that fund the FDA. The US Government only recently banned six phthalates (the “ph” is silent) though they have been banned in Europe for about 10 years. They are toxins that are used to keep plastics supple. Why are they bad? (Sorry. I got tired of trying to mentally pronounce them as I type.) (Sigh) These toxins are a risk to sexual development. Some of the many problems they can cause are early puberty in girls, reduced testosterone levels in boys and genital defects. It has been used in toys, pacifiers and teethers. BPAs can affect hormones and have their own list of horrors. It can be found in the lining of canned foods and liquid baby formulas, baby bottles and sippy cups, to name a few. PBDEs are fire retardants used for 30 years to “protect” our families. They are found in alarming amounts in the blood of infants and children.
