What Household Toxins Lurk Beneath Your Kitchen Sink?

Are your cleaning supplies safe?

There are many household toxins that can cause serious health problems from respiratory ailments to cancer. Toxins are poisons. Poisons are bad. Who knew?

There are household toxins in cleaning products. These have been used for so many generations and we just take for granted that they are safe. Other cleaning products have been advertised on television so much that we are sure they must be safe. Otherwise they wouldn’t be advertising them, right? Wrong.

The companies selling these products want your money. They will tell you anything to get you to purchase the product and convince you that they work, even when they don’t!

They want you to pay them for killing you with household toxins!

Here’s a radical concept: Why don’t we start using common sense and stop letting Corporate America or the Corporate World kills us off to make a buck!

Case in point: I hate housework! Pure and simple, I hate it. I’d rather write, or play, or cook! So if anything is going to make my life easier I will try it. Boy, am I stupid!

We have really hard water loaded with iron. “Scrubbin’ Bubbles” came out promising that you never have to scrub your tile again. I bought into the hype. $29US worth.

I bought the whole shebang, the device that spreads the bubbles and an extra bottle of bubbles! Just to give it a good go. To my surprise, drum roll, please… I got mildew on my grout.

We live in a 60 year old house and in the first 11 years that we’ve lived in this house we had no mildew on the grout. Now we have persistent mildew on the grout. Curses! I can’t get rid of it! It is a constant battle now!

I, once again, digress. Some mildews, BTW, are toxic, but we’ll talk about them later.

Under the Kitchen Sink

What household toxins lurk beneath your kitchen sink? Chlorine bleach? Window cleaner? Ammonia? Antibacterial cleaners? Pesticides?

Let’s examine the affects of these products when used in the average household.

Chlorine

Chlorine is a carcinogen. It can be hazardous if absorbed through the skin. If you are cleaning with it the use of gloves will diminish the absorption. Use it cautiously.

If you are using community supplied tap water chances are that it is treated with chlorines or chloramines, a combo of chlorine and ammonia. This type of water should be filtered before use. These chemicals are absorbed into your system whether you are drinking or bathing.

These chemicals are used to keep water lines from gunking up, not necessarily to protect your health. I consider them household toxins.

Fluoride

Fluoride, found IN the sink, not under, is another additive in many public water supplies. Sodium fluoride is poison, rat poison to be more precise. Furthermore, fluoride does nothing to inhibit cavities. Sadly, about 90% of US communities still fluoridating are using fluorosilicic acid instead of sodium fluoride. As far as I can find, this substance has never been tested for safety or efficacy.

In some instances, higher lead levels have been found in the blood of children drinking water treated with fluorosilicic acid. Read the report Fluoride Is Poison if you have children.

I use a non-flouride toothpaste found in my health food store. I have not been able to find any toothpaste at the grocery store without fluoride. A tube of flouride toothepaste warns you to call poison control if swallowed!

If it is on your skin or in your mouth it is being absorbed into your system. If you can’t believe it then ask your doctor how trans dermal medical patches work. The medicine absorbs into your system. There have even been documented cases of overdose and death from some of those patches.

Ammonia

I have replaced ammonia-laden window cleaners with vinegar diluted in water. Works just as well and contains nothing harmful. I use a little in the windshield washer of my car.

Ammonia can irritate the sinuses and lungs. NEVER mix ammonia with chlorine bleach. The combination will form a lethal gas!

Antibacterial cleansers……

way overused. Too much use of antibacterial cleansers simply give germs the opportunity to build up a resistance and get stronger. If your environment is too sterile you set yourself up for illness. You read that right! If you have NO exposure your body has no opportunity to build up natural immunities.

The human body is truly a miraculous creation. Given the right defenses it can overcome almost anything! Those defenses are to protect yourself as much as possible from environmental toxins and to eat the right kinds of whole unprocessed food to let your body defend itself naturally.

Good anitioxidants will go a long way to this end.

Using simple natural cleaners will save money and maybe your life by reducing household toxins!

Let’s talk about household air quality.....
