Missy, My Wonder Dog
Missy is my favorite four-legged child. I can’t help it. She is beautiful. She is prissy, she is sweet…she’s mine. Mischief (whom I call Missy) was named before we got her. She is ten. We were asked to dog sit her for a few days until a home could be found for her. We were told by someone that she was a Chihuahua mix. She weighed nine pounds. She had very large ears. She looked like the Taco Bell dog. One friend thought we should name her “Chiquita”. The first couple of nights she slept in the crook of my neck. She nuzzled my neck and stole my heart. I’ve never seen a sixty-five pound Chihuahua. Me thinks someone was wrong about her pedigree. In addition to her large ears we failed to notice the large webbed feet. She gained three pounds a week. She quickly grew into both the ears and the feet. As near as we can determine, she appears to be a Basenji/retriever mix. She yodels and chortles. She is very vocal. She talks. A lot. She has the bearing and looks of a basenji. She is very regal! She prances when she walks. She is the alpha of the house! She also has a great sense of humor! When I tore a meniscus in my knee, she limped on her front leg until my knee was better. She did this only when she knew she was being watched. (An examination showed nothing wrong with her leg.) However, a few months later she started limping for real. She was clearly in pain and was having trouble getting up. She refused to get in the car, even though she loves car rides. She had a great deal of trouble climbing the stairs and some days just couldn’t do it. She was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and it was getting worse.
She was only six. The vet prescribed meds. They didn’t help. Her health was going downhill and I was starting to worry about kidney damage from the Rimadyl and Dermaxx. We discussed surgery (around $3,000) but it was not recommended for a dog her size. It made me sad to see her in so much pain. She would look at me and whimper as if to say “please make it go away”. My active happy dog could barely stand, let alone walk. Sitting was painful for her. Getting up was worse. It is important for any supplement to be bio-available. Bio-availability refers to the ability of one’s body to absorb and utilize the product. The glucosamine from the vet apparently was not. Tripleflex I saw a television commercial for Tripleflex. The ad said that results were often seen within seven days. I believe very little of what I see on television, especially in ads. But I was desperate for something to help Missy so we got some. Within three days she was able to climb the steps without complaining. She was walking easier but still wouldn’t get in the car, even though she wanted to. More research…. Omega3 is shown to help joint inflammation. We added that to her daily routine as well. We give her Tripleflex and Omega3 twice a day. A few weeks later Missy was once again a happy healthy dog and runs like a puppy! She anxiously and easily jumps into the car for that favorite ride! She races around the outside of the house once or twice every time I come home to show me how happy she is to see me. She is still very bossy!
