Our Old Boy Cody

Cody was a 19 pound ball of loveable cuddly fur when we got him in 1996. As a Lab mix he is prone to hip dysplasia, allergies and bad skin.

When Cody was almost three we acquired Missy. He reluctantly accepted her and they were soon best of buds. He was not as happy about the appearance of Gator. He whines and barks if she gets close even eight years later. She, of course, being the Demon Dog that she is, will pester him and lick his face all the while that he is complaining!

He is Ray’s dog—dark haired, balding and limping! Did I mention nearsighted?

Seriously, his dysplasia was never as bad as Missy’s was but he is doing better on the same routine she is on. He gets Tripleflex and Omega3 twice a day.

His skin condition had gotten so bad that he had lost much of the fur on his back. He is allergic to beef, wheat and fleas. We are careful not let him have any beef, wheat or byproducts of either.

We recently added a couple tablespoons of coconut oil and olive oil to his meals. His fur has grown back and his scaly skin has almost completely cleared up.

The fleas are harder to control here in Florida, especially since the “kids” sometimes roam in the woods and constantly dig and roll in the sand pit they have dug in the back yard!

It is nice to be able to sleep through the night without hearing him scratch, lick and chew. He’s a happier dog now.

The old boy is not as active as he used to be but at least he is more comfortable now. He is still, however, just as sly. He will bark at something imaginary to distract the girls and manages to steal their treats when they are distracted!

He has become a little cranky, though and tires a lot faster than when he was a youngster.

And he still doesn’t like Gator.
