Are Antibiotics and Hormones Safely Used In Our Food Supply?

More and more bacterial strains have mutated or developed resistance to antibiotics . This can happen when they are exposed over and over again to small doses of or when improperly used.

If your doctor has properly prescribed an antibiotic and you do not follow his/her instructions to finish the entire course, you stand the risk of having to take an even stronger—and perhaps more expensive—antibiotic to do the job.

Quitting the course of medication because you feel better, and saving the rest for later, is never a good idea if you have been properly prescribed.

Antibiotics are used in conventionally grown foods we eat from plants to cows, to chickens and pigs, even to farm raised fish. We are bombarded daily for the sake of bringing so-called “healthy” (translate: disease free) food to market.

Big Pharma has developed ever stronger and ever more expensive drugs to combat resistant germs.

Dairy cows are given hormones to enhance milk production. Young girls are maturing at an earlier age than ever before. Is there a connection to the hormones in milk or maybe even soy, which imitates certain hormones?

Irradiation is supposed to kill food pathogens to make our food safer. For growers and grocers irradiation extends the shelf life. That’s good for them. Is it good for us?

Irradiation kills enzymes and diminishes other nutrients. And sitting on a shelf or traveling long distances from farm to shelf diminishes these nutrients even more.

Genetically modified foods…I’m not sure where to begin.

The genes of the plant foods are modified by using bacteria, viruses and (ew) human genes to name a few. At least 70% of food on supermarket shelves today contain GM food of some kind mostly from soy, corn, cotton or canola.

GM plants are modified to be disease resistant and pest resistance. Yum! Pesticide in every bite!

Let’s have a little history. Monsanto was one of the first companies to introduce genetically modified seeds and has made an effort to dominate the world market.

When GM foods were first introduced FDA scientists had huge concerns about the effects on plants, animals, humans and antibiotic resistance.

The agencies within the FDA believed long term safety studies needed to be conducted to determine whether they should go to market. They have been banned in much of Europe.

One of the concerns in antibiotic resistance was because of an increasing number of super diseases that are already antibiotic resistant. (see above)

In spite of all the internal resistance to unleash GMs on the market the FDA declared a “Statement of Policy” in May, 1992. The Policy stated that “The agency is not aware of any information showing that food derived by these (GM) methods differ from other foods an any meaningful or uniform way.”

It went on to say no safety testing was necessary. “If Monsanto and other biotech food companies say their food is safe, the FDA has no further questions.”

That policy statement was issued by Michael Taylor, in charge of policy for the FDA, former attorney for Monsanto and later a Monsanto vice president.

The fox guarding the hen house?

Speaking of hens, I read a few years ago that most animals, given the choice, will avoid eating GM foods. Jeff Smith's article, as well as several others, confirms it. Does that tell you something?

For more about genetically modified foods read Jeff Smith’s powerful report on the Responsible Technology website. (the source for much of this info) You will find the link below.

Unnatural additives add up to an ill nation.

I have posed these questions so that you can make responsible decisions about your family’s health. We need to take a more natural approach to health. We need to take charge of our own health!
