Not following healthy eating guidelines can lead to immune problems, obesity, chronic fatigue as well as a host of other problems like heart disease and cancer.
My Story
A few years ago I was diagnosed and suffered greatly with Lupus (SLE), high blood pressure, hypothyroid and fibromyalgia.
As busy professionals we dined out often. Even though I knew better, when we did cook we took unhealthy shortcuts—-packaged products, processed foods, not paying attention to unhealthy ingredients…
My health continued to deteriorate.
It is very difficult, if not impossible, to enjoy a truly healthy diet if everything you prepare is commercially packaged. Most prepackaged products on today’s supermarket shelves are loaded with preservatives to extend the shelf life.
And who the heck knows what goes into restaurant food!
My feelings? The longer the shelf life of the food, the shorter the “shelf life” of the person consuming it!
Since I do the majority of the cooking in our house I made a conscious decision to take control of my health and that of our family by eliminating junk and using only organic and/or natural products.
It was an easy transition for me as my parents were aware how important it was to consume whole grain and organic food. The transition was also easy for my daughter, Lori. Her pediatrician was one of the rare MD’s in the ’70’s that believed in eating naturally healthy foods.
Lori has Down Syndrome and as an infant was prone to respiratory problems. We were able to thwart them with a healthy diet under Dr. Ray C. Wunderlich’s tutelage. She got off to a healthy start at an early age.
It took my nothing-but-huge-portions-meat-and-potatoes guy a little longer to adjust but he did splendidly and now enjoys healthier meals—even relishes them!
Come back soon and follow us on our journey to better health!
